Tracking the campaign

As the election campaign comes closer to its final week, our tracking shows what has changed - and what has stayed the same - throughout the campaigns first five weeks.

Before the election campaign, many people were still yet to hear much about Keir Starmer. As he has made his first impression on the public, much of this seems to have been positive, and Starmer's approval rating rose into positive figures at the start of the campaign. In contrast, Rishi Sunak's has declined since the start of the campaign.

Since the start of the campaign, we have seen an uptick in the number of people saying that Labour is ready to form the next government, although this has flattened in recent weeks at around 47%.

The public also think that the Conservative campaign has been going badly - a number that has steadily increased throughout the campaign. This will be in part due to the large number of gaffes that have cut through with the public - which we have written about here.

We can also see how campaigning has ramped up in recent weeks, with the majority of people now saying they have received political advertising through their letterboxes.
